OCR: The portraits of the child really would require a lens of at least 70 mm. The one with the halo is also the result of using the double exposure device and was done on an SLR - but could be done with a good zoom compact. The shot of the girl is again using about 70 mm and this is to get the correct perspective. In order to fill the frame with a semi-wide angle, the camera would have been so close that the face would have been distorted. Whilst family group shots and scenics with people included are easy with the average compact - the closer portrait is not due to the wide angle lens usually fitted. This is where a zoom comes in.
